A front-end is how you consume content, it is the user facing part of a website. For instance youtube.com is the official front-end for youtube. For a lot of popular websites there are alternative front-ends made by third parties, usually these provide a better user experience and don't tend to have ads or privacy invasive tracking. You should look at your browsers extensions as there may be one that allow auto redirects which take you to these front-ends.
Invidious is a privacy focused open source alternative front-end for youtube. It is decentralised so you will need to find a server to join if you want to have your subscriptions, you can also watch without logging in.

Freetube unlike invidious is a program separate from your browser, I prefer this as it doesn't require you to log in. You can choose to use the youtube api or the invidious api. Freetube allows you to make multiple profiles which can have their own subscriptions and are all stored locally, another great feature is it remembers where you are in a playlist (something youtube still doesn't do).
